Chilled Water Based In-row Front Cooler Unit

Canovate Electronics’ In-Row, chilled-water based front coolers were designed to work specifically in cold and hot aisle containment applications in dense data center environments, without the need for a raised floor. Their modular engineering gives you the ability to meet the most demanding data center needs, while also precisely controlling your capital expenditure. You can invest in the amount of cooling you need now and, as your needs grow, add more units to your system for increased cooling.

Canovate has designed a number of chilled-water front coolers to meet a variety of needs in data center environments. They range in size from 300-600mm wide and 1000-1200mm deep, and are 2000mm tall. Depending on the model, they can achieve cooling capacities of up to 30 or 60kW.

Because chilled-water based systems are part of a chiller system, they don’t rely on condensers to cool their refrigerant. Instead, water chilled to 14°C is brought through a closed loop to the air handling unit’s cooling fans.


Through heavy investment in R&D, Canovate has developed a practical design with greater efficiency than other In-Row, chilled water based front coolers. Our variable-speed fans are temperature controlled to automatically deliver the right amount of cooling and adjust for spikes and gaps in server usage. Their motors are a brushless (electronically commutated) design for increased power, speed, control, and reliability, and reduced maintenance.

Our design is further improved to ease the cycles of maintenance and repair, by making our cooling fans hot swappable. Should a problem occur and a fan need replaced or repaired, operations can continue without impacting operations or customer experience.

The system can be monitored and controlled with an optional SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) card. This allows administrators to monitor how well the system is working holistically, and to better identify any possible hotspots, leaks in the hot/cold aisle containment, under-used servers, or other issues.
