Discussions surrounding the telecom industry have lately been dominated by 5G Mobile and Fiber Optic technologies. Due to their lack of attenuation (signal loss) and interference from electromagnetic sources, fiber technologies are largely replacing copper cables in long-haul transmission networks.

However, while the role copper cabling plays in the latest generation networks has changed, copper is still an irreplaceable solution to many 5G problems.
